The Quick Guide To Merging Multiple Facebook Pages

*The guide has been updated in 2024

Company Facebook pages are a great way to boost your brand awareness and interact with customers on a personal level. Ensuring that your brand is well represented on this social media platform should be a focus and users need to be given a reason to follow your brand. When doing this you may be managing multiple Facebook pages. However, this can be time consuming and difficult to do so.

Many companies may decide to have more than one Facebook page in order to separate content for their different audiences. For example, having numerous pages for store locations or brand services. Here are a couple of examples of well-known companies who have decided to set up their Facebook profiles in this way:

Virgin

Separate pages for each of their services

Costa Coffee

Separate pages for shop locations

Why Would You Need To Merge Your Facebook Pages?

Sometimes managing your company’s reputation can be difficult with multiple Facebook pages. For example, monitoring and replying to direct messages or comments on the page walls.

Having separate pages may not be necessary if you are posting the exact same content to all pages. This means that the audience is split up on different pages when they could all be targeted through one simple, individual page.

However, be warned that sometimes having one Facebook page isn’t recommended for some brands. Especially those that want to tailor content around specific stores. For instance, those that may only have events or sales at some of these locations.

Another common reason to merge Facebook pages is that people, usually employees, may have kindly set up a number of Facebook pages for you all with different names. Time to get rid!

Our Step-By-Step Guide To Merging

Top tips before you begin:

  • Check that the Facebook username is available if you are thinking of changing the page name once merged into one.
  • Bare in mind that It could take a few days before your Facebook merge request is completed. (could be up to 7 days)
  • Only 2 pages will be merged at a time. So if you are merging more than this, you will have to do multiple merge requests.
  • Your pages need to have ‘similar’ page names and are relevant to each other.
  • Content from the ‘merged’ page including posts and photos will be deleted. However, content on the remaining page will be kept.
  • You will need admin access to all pages you will want to merge.

There are also some handy troubleshooting solutions in this guide if you do find things go pear-shaped.

Step 1

Login to your Facebook account and go to the following link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/merge/.

Step 2

In here you can then choose the first two pages that you would like to merge. When requesting this, remember that the “page you’ll keep” will stay the same, however, the “duplicate page you’ll merge” will have all content removed. In the example, we will be keeping the top ‘TEST PAGE 2’ (below) which in this case is actually ‘TEST PAGE 1’ (Facebook seems to have a glitch in this part of the process and duplicates the page names so take note of your profile picture).

Step 3

So now you have requested the merge of 2 pages. You can see the status of this request by going to ‘settings’ from the right drop-down menu then ‘support inbox’. We were able to then merge these two pages into the one ‘TEST PAGE 1’ page.

Why Can’t I Merge My Facebook Pages?

  • It is a global page type
  • One is verified and one is unverified
  • It is a classic page (most pages are now being switched to the ‘new page experience’ type automatically)

The Benefits Of Merging Your Facebook Pages

All users who have liked the Facebook pages can be compiled into one audience on one page. Therefore, they can all be targeted with the same content. This also helps in terms of being seen to have a well-known brand with a larger number of likes on the Facebook page.

So now you’ve got one single Facebook page, you can go ahead and share great content with your audience. One of the best ways to begin doing so is to get set up on a post scheduling tool.
